Post Workout Mushroom Cacao Milk
For years chocolate milk has been lauded as a natural post work out beverage as its carbohydrate to (complete) protein ratio aids in muscle recovery. Let's herbify it!
Cordyceps, a fungi that grows on insects, is an adaptogenic herb that aids energy capacity, supports oxygen uptake, and promotes metabolic function.
Using cacao powder adds an antioxidant boost that is also anti-inflammatory and extends those good feelings you have after a workout.
Collagen powder is added for a tasteless way to increase the protein content though it does make for a thicker drink.
Consider adding potassium (cream of tartar), magnesium and salt to help replenish electrolytes.
M A K E
1 c whole milk
1 tsp cordyceps powder
1 tbsp cacao powder
4 tbsp collagen powder
1 tbsp maple syrup, optional
1/4 tsp cream of tartar, optional
1/2 tsp magnesium powder, optional
Pinch of salt, optional
Add all ingredients to a cup and stir immediately and vigorously. A milk frother works well too. Enjoy after a workout.
N O T E S
If you have time, you could warm the milk with the cordyceps for optimal extraction.
If its too thick, pull back on the collagen powder.
If you don't like the taste, pull back the cordyceps to 1/2 tsp.
Try chaga in replace of cordyceps.
